clubs in leicester
Leicester's nitelife is absolutely booming. There are loads of clubs all
situated in the city, and there's definitely something for everyone, from Goth
to uplifting beats and breaks, Leicester has it all! I've taken a look at the
most popular ones here, take a look, but most importantly - get out there and
try them out! Don't forget to check out what's happening 2nite!

Leicester's hotspot, nothing but the best R'n'B and soulful garage with top
DJ's makes this a sleek and sexy (Thursday) nite. The main arena is bigger
than most in Leicester, there's a great atmosphere and the place is always
packed. There's even a chillout bar and a balcony to escape from the
madness!

This place started off in my bad books, the decor was all black - too dark
and dinghy. On my second visit though, the first thing that I noticed was the decoration. There's a life size UV picture painted on the wall of two pole dancers, they've even added flaming torches, which looks brilliant. The music is usually quite good and many club classics are played on Saturdays. This place is open until 6am, so you might be better
off using it as an 'after-party', rather than staying here the whole nite.

Recently refurbished, Creation (formerly Kudos) is a multi-scene venue, with a modern and
contemporary look. Besides the main arena there's a smaller mezzanine room and a
'balcony room' upstairs too, which enables a diverse music policy! Creation
really has something to entertain everyone. This place can hold 2000 of you and
the atmosphere is always buzzing - they play host to what has to be considered
the current best student night this year - 'Vodka'.

Over £1.5 million was spent on transforming Industria into a venue with a
capacity of 950, and it shows. The sound system is banging, the decor
gives it a modern look, with psychedelic TV screens everywhere. Strictly
no attitude allowed, whatever the nite, creating the perfect atmosphere and even
the staff are bubbly and friendly! Industria also plays host to "Miss
Moneypenny's" on Saturday nites, with big name house DJ's, definitely too
good to miss!

Junction 21 is quite underground, it's like a dark and dingy warehouse but
has very ambient lighting and an amazing sound system, which is designed to make
you jump up and down to the heavy bass! The main arena hosts a big dance floor
and a balcony where you can sit down and escape for a while. There's also
another bar/room in there and a chillout room with comfy leather sofas. Playing
regular funky and hard house, there's always a nice crowd in here.

Life is quite a decent club, with good decor and sound, three bars and one
chillout room. However, the place has been plagued by bad DJ's and
unfriendly doormen. However, I've been assured by James (the co-manager)
that the club will see massive changes as of January 2002, they're bringing in proper
DJ's and nite's run by proper promoters who have their roots in quality proper
house music. Not only that, "the door will be policed by our own
clubber-on-the-door so as long as you look cool fashion trainers and decent
denim will be getting in." Looks hopeful and I'll keep you posted of Life's
revival!

This place is an Indie nightclub with a twist. It hosts an indoor skateboard
ramp for those who fancy it! Always a laid back atmosphere, everyone's out to
have a good time in here. There's no dress code and Wednesday is a diverse and
excellent student nite. They've even got a great choice of cocktails! So be sure
to check this one out.

With Po Na Na, you're bound to have a good nite any night of the week. It's
an excellent venue, the bar staff are interesting and attentive, and the
eclectic mix of music definitely 'does the trick'! The
prices are quite varied and it's even free on Monday's, so if u want to have a
really cheap night, make sure u get there before 11pm! The place is quite small
and it can get a bit rammed. However, it's a
fab place to be whether u just want to chill, dance or get hammered. I recommend
it to everyone!
54 King Street
Leicester

This place takes it back to the basics of clubbing - people, music, glamour.
It's a great place to sit and chill in comfort and whether you're gay, straight,
bi, black, white, asian, girl, boy or tranny, you will have a seriously great
night out at this 'let your hair down' venue. World class DJ's make this another
essential nite!

Zanzibar offers 3 rooms, 3 DJ's, 3 dance floors and 8 bars - all with free
admission before 10.30pm! It hosts the largest dance floor in the Midlands.
Whatever your taste in music - chart, cheese, 70's, 80's, the latest dance tunes
or the best in commercial house, it will all be catered for in here. Only
problem is there seems to be loads of 'teeny boppers' in here on the weekends,
but that doesn't distract from the atmosphere which is always great.
